I wanted to make an otherwise obscure history more visceral. . Audio AR is the ideal medium to make that happen

Mary Moreno is a New York City composer, singer/songwriter and pianist. Born in Chicago, she studied voice and piano at the American Conservatory of Music.  After moving to New York she enjoyed a successful career as a commercial music composer and producer.

In 2003 she returned to her classical music roots and began her studies in composition, orchestration, counterpoint, music theory, electronic music production and sound design in Julliard’s Evening Division. Since then she has composed a body of work that ranges from pieces for solo piano to scores for chamber and full orchestra.

Moreno is a 2008 NY Foundation for the Arts Fellow in Music Composition.  In 2012 she was awarded the Shirley Holden Helberg Mature Woman’s Grant in Music, sponsored by the National League of American Pen Women.

Her String Quartet No. 4, “Heartbeat,” was recorded by the San Francisco-based Friction Quartet in 2015.

During July, 2016 Mary spent a month in Paris participating in the European American Musical Alliance Composition Program, where she studied with Narcis Bonet, David Conte, and other former students of Nadia Boulanger. Her “Petite Fugue for String Quartet” was completed during this residency and performed at La Schola Cantorum.
